Katina Morales, aka Betty Khronic, started her love for making marijuana infused foods in her Downtown Los Angeles home kitchen, while training for the 2015 Boston Marathon. A distance runner since college, she was in search of an all natural way of healing sore muscles, alternative to aspirins and painkillers, she came up with the idea of making her own cannabis infused edibles to consume after long runs. Betty started to share her edibles with her network of athletes and active professionals, and after receiving positive feedback, she knew she wanted to create edible foods for the high performance athlete. In September of 2015, Betty decided to make her concept of healthy medicated energy bars a reality.
Inspired by her passion for fitness, Betty designed and released a line of organic raw vegan cannabis infused energy bars under the company, Betty Khronic. Determined to eliminate the negative stigma and stereotypes that are tied to being a cannabis user, Betty is striving to set high standards on how business is conducted in the cannabis industry. Betty Khronic launched January of this year and has already grown substantially. Betty Khronic made their first public debut at The 420 games in Santa Monica, the very first cannabis event ever held on the Santa Monica Pier.
As a distance runner and marathon competitor, I use cannabis to aid in recovery the natural way. I used to use cannabis for recovery after long runs, and before intense stretching sessions. I never had to take synthetic pain killers or sleeping pills, because cannabis was my all natural solution for recovery and sleep aid. During the 2014 Boston Marathon I tore my IT Band, and suffered a major injury that was detrimental to my running career. The only option the medical field gave me was to take steroid injections to heal the tendon back together. In fear of what the later effects would be from the steroid injections, I opted to not take them and find my own natural way to heal and be able to run again. Unfortunately, because of the injury I am not able to run distance anymore, but I was able to recover from a torn IT Band injury using only physical therapy and cannabis. My favorite form of consuming cannabis is eating it, healthy edibles are my go to, as well CBD/THC ratio tinctures. Cannabis topicals are another great way to heal sore muscles and aches and pains. Because of Cannabis and physical therapy I am still able to live my active lifestyle (trail running, yoga, hiking, mountain climbing) and run mid distances. My biggest fear was not being able to run at all ever again. As a result of the natural healing process cannabis allowed me to have, I will not suffer from any long term negative effects from steroid injections and I can continue to stay active and adventurous.
